Two Start-Up Projects Secure Millions in Funding
Two projects by researchers from the University of Bonn and University Hospital Bonn (UKB) have each been awarded up to €1 million in funding from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space’s “GO-Bio initial” program. The funds will be used to translate research findings from the life sciences into marketable products and services, e.g. through securing patent protection and spinning off start-ups.
A room full of opportunities and visions
At the first Bonn Start-up Career Forum, around twenty start-ups from the University of Bonn and the surrounding region met with over a hundred interested talents. Participants exchanged ideas about possible career or co-founding opportunities, gave tips, and made new contacts. The forum is a joint event organized by the University of Bonn, Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, DIGITALHUB.DE, and Witten/Herdecke University.
Founder gathers international inspiration from the USA
Aging in a familiar cultural environment—that's what Bianca Yang wants to make possible with her idea, Cultural Care. She is developing a retirement home concept that takes residents' cultural backgrounds into account and offers them a familiar environment. With funding from the Santander Innovation Grants of the Transfer Center enaCom, she traveled to the University of California in the USA this year, where she established new networks and completed a master class on smart health and artificial intelligence. She had already developed her business idea last year as a scholarship holder of the EXIST Women Program at the University of Bonn. In her report, she now recounts her international experiences.

Transfer Strategy

The University of Bonn has adopted a transfer strategy that describes the central aspects and objectives of knowledge and technology transfer. It serves as an orientation for a common understanding of transfer that promotes the exchange between science and society, which takes place at different levels and by different means. With its Excellence Strategy, the University of Bonn emphasizes its impact orientation and would like to systematically expand this further.
