The network’s actions center around the “3Rs principle” (Replace, Reduce, Refine). In a photo collage, researchers, animal welfare officers and animal attendants from all of North-Rhine Westphalia are now outlining how best possible animal welfare and excellent research can go hand in hand, how important it is to conduct further research on new approaches and alternative methods and why experiments on animals are currently still indispensable.

The eight medical faculties of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia have formed a 3R competence network. In line with the “3Rs principle,” the network aims to enable (bio-)medical progress in NRW in harmony with best animal welfare and to specifically support research, innovation and training in the field.
