Pathways to Research for Doctoral Students
The German university system can be particularly challenging for PhD students with a refugee or migration background, for example in regards to financing, cultural differences or a lack of social contacts. With the Pathways to Research program, we want to help and support you through your doctoral studies at the University of Bonn with a range of activities and events.

Components of the Program
Doctoral students receive a scholarship of EUR 1,500 per month for up to 36 months. An extension of a further six months is possible upon application and subject to verification of the requirements.
In addition, doctoral candidates have access to an extensive range of workshops and coaching sessions at the Argelander Competence Center at the University of Bonn. Participation is optional. The events are held in German or English.
From 2024, doctoral candidates are encouraged to get involved in the Pathways to Research sponsorship program and to accompany and support students with a refugee or migrant background on their path at the University of Bonn.
