DSH and TestDaF Preparatory Course

Participants

The German crash courses preparing for the DSH and TestDaF are designed for international applicants who would like to earn a degree at the University of Bonn. Their content prepares for the DSH as well as for TestDaF.

Application

The international university applicant must apply to be admitted to his or her chosen degree using the Antrag auf Zulassung/Immatrikulation (entrance/enrollment application) and state that he or she would first like to attend a German course. To be able to do this, the applicant must answer "yes" to the question under point 11.

Application Deadlines

The Office for International Affairs (Akademisches Auslandsamt) or the University Secretariat (Studentensekretariat/mailing adress: Universität Bonn, Studentensekretariat, 53012 Bonn) must receive the entrance/enrollment application no later than January 15th for a summer semester and no later than July 15th for a winter semester.

Organisation of the Course

The DSH and TestDaF preparatory courses will be held on behalf of the University of Bonn and under its control and responsibility by the ProIntegration e.V. association and are subject to a fee. The course fee is 882 Euro.

Prerequisites

German skills at intermediate level are an important prerequisite for participation in the DSH preparatory courses. The entrance application must include a clear indication that the applicant possesses these skills! Valid certificates include "Zertifikat Deutsch" or "Zertifikat Deutsch für den Beruf" of  Goethe-Institut or telc GmbH, which are also administered by their licensees, or a TestDaF (Test of German as a Foreign Language) certificate showing the minimum level of TDN 3 in at least one part of the examination. The certificate must be provided together with the application! As there are only a limited number of places available for the preparatory course, we can only consider applications that are received by the deadline stated. We will collect the applications and once the application deadline has expired, we will select participants from the total applications received.

Course Duration

This is an aproximately 20-week crash course with daily classes. Eighteen lessons will be given from Monday to Friday. During the summer semester, the course will take place between April and August /  September and during the winter semester from October to February / March. Periods during which there are no classes will be predetermined by the German bank holidays and may implicate minor variations in the number of weekly classes.

Course Levels

Courses will be held on different levels: Basic and Advanced. Students will be assigned to courses at the beginning of the program by means of a placement test. The minimum prerequisite for an application for these courses is, as described above, the "Zertifikat Deutsch". This leads to the expectation that, within the time available and considering the substantial amount of course hours, a learning progress up to the examination level is achievable. The University of Bonn reserves the right to make changes to the course structure!

Final Examination

The course will be completed with the "DSH German Language Proficiency Test for Admission to Higher Education" or Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber. Participants of the Basic Level course must take the final examination after two semesters and advanced participants after one semester. The first examination attempt is free of charge. Repetition of the DSH after a failed attempt will be charged with the usual examination fee of 110 Euro. Those who fail the examination can take the German course one more time. University applicants who attend the preparatory course will be enrolled until they have passed the language examination or failed for the last time. Passing the examination does not entitle the candidate to register for a degree.

Fee

The course fee is 882 Euro. The course fee is not refundable after the beginning of the course. For this reason, any given deadline for arrival to the course is mandatory. If an applicant becomes aware of the fact that an arrival within the given deadline will not be possible, our office should be notified as soon as possible. Only then will a reimbursement of the course fee minus a processing fee of 50 Euro be possible.

Lesson Times

The courses are organized within the constraints of the general timetable for the German courses offered by the International Office. Course selection according to the time of the day a course takes place is not possible!

Accommodation

You can apply for accommodation in student residences (dormitories) from the Studierendenwerk Bonn (Student Services Agency). The application deadline for a summer semester is February 20th and August 20th for a winter semester. You can request an application form from the University of Bonn Studentenwerk (Student Services Agency), Nassestr. 11, 53113 Bonn, Germany.

Please note that neither the International Office nor ProIntegration e. V. are in charge of providing accommodation for students!
