W2 Professorship in Sinology
to be filled at the earliest possible date at the Institute of Oriental and Asian Studies.

We seek a scholar whose research covers a broad range of fields within Sinology, particularly one of the areas of history, history of ideas and cultures, or literature. Applicants must have a proven record of university-level teaching and the ability to teach in German. Experience in acquiring external funding, research stays and collaborations, and international research activities is desirable. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field as well as a habilitation or equivalent academic achievements.
The successful candidate will head the Department of Sinology at the Institute of Oriental and Asian Studies. Active participation in the Bonn International Graduate School – Oriental and Asian Studies (BIGS-OAS), in joint degree programmes of the Institute, in academic self-governance, and close cooperation with neighbouring disciplines in Asian Studies are expected.
We offer a research-intensive and stimulating environment within an interdisciplinary department, providing excellent opportunities to develop individual research and teaching ideas.
The appointment requirements are governed by Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW).
