Mobility in Bonn
Some 31,000 students, 8,000 University employees, and approximately 5,500 employees of the University Hospital Bonn commute (almost) daily to their classes or workplaces. Mobility is therefore a major issue in Bonn and is particularly challenging at the moment: the closure of the Nordbrücke, restrictions on rail service, and several construction sites are having a noticeable impact on many routes into the city and between the campus locations. The University of Bonn takes the concerns of students, faculty, and staff very seriously and has compiled information, resources, and helpful links on this page to assist with daily planning.
Wherever possible and practical, flexible solutions can help alleviate the situation—for example, by using bicycles, public transportation, car-sharing, or carpooling; by adjusting work hours and locations; and, where appropriate, by adopting hybrid formats for teaching, meetings, and other events. Please check regularly for updates on the current traffic situation and determine in advance which routes and alternatives are best for you.

Partnerships with Karos and Cambio
As part of its mobility concept, the University of Bonn has partnered with the car-sharing provider cambio. The service can be used for both work and personal purposes. For more information, please see the FAQ below and the service portal.
The University of Bonn also partners with Karos (formerly goFLUX), a company that supports carpooling. Staff and students can use this service. For more information, see the FAQ.
FAQ - cambio Carsharing
Departments and offices at the University of Bonn can use cambio vehicles for business trips. Billing is handled directly through the respective cost center; a personal account is not required. You can find more information on the service portal.
Employees and students at the University of Bonn receive a cambio membership with no registration fee (a saving of 30 €) and can choose from all fare plans—including the CAMPUS plan, which has no age restrictions. Personal use of the fare plans is also permitted.
You can sign up online through cambio. You’ll need your driver’s license, ID card, IBAN, and valid proof of employment or student status. Your information must then be validated once.

- Free rides are available with an SWB subscription ticket (SemesterTicket, DeutschlandTicket, JobTicket, etc.).
- Without a subscription ticket, passengers pay €0.50 per trip.
- Drivers receive a cost contribution based on the kilometers driven for taking additional commuters. You can find more information on this in the service portal.
University Parking
As part of its agreement with the City authorities to extend its Poppelsdorf Campus, the University of Bonn moved to introduce comprehensive charges at all its car parking facilities as part of its overarching mobility concept, and its drive to reduce the volume of motorized individual traffic on University grounds.
An underground parking garage for cars is located directly at the main university building beneath the Hofgarten. There are approximately 3,000 parking spaces available on university grounds. All parking spaces on the University of Bonn grounds are subject to parking management and are fee-based. Visitors to the university can purchase a parking ticket from ticket machines, while university members can purchase day passes or long-term passes. This system of pay and display is subject to close surveillance.
Working Together to Reduce Traffic
The University of Bonn has joined forces with a consortium of 200 employers including Deutsche Telekom, Deutsche Post DHL Group and the University Hospital Bonn, in the “moveBonn” scheme, in an attempt to reduce traffic in the Greater Bonn Area, especially during the morning and evening rush hours. The scheme seeks to encourage the use of alternatives to single-person car transport.
