Media Laboratory at the Bonn Center for Higher Education (BZH)
The Media Laboratory is a cross-institutional studio available to members of the University of Bonn for use in their studies, research, and teaching. Conveniently located near the central train station, it is easily accessible to all members of the university community.
The laboratory’s equipment and user-friendly setup support a wide range of application scenarios, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced users.
Possible Uses
The Media Laboratory can be used to produce a variety of audiovisual teaching and learning media, including:
- Recordings of presentations and lectures
- Creation of explainer videos
- Moderated sessions, talks, and interviews
- Audio production for podcasts
- Photo sessions using a large background system
- Web conferences with approximately 6–8 participants
- Green-screen recordings
- Production of audiovisual teaching and learning materials for publication as Open Educational Resources (OER)
Equipment and Facilities
The 30 m² recording studio offers professional conditions for media projects. It features excellent acoustics, high ceilings for studio lighting, and a large background system.
Users are welcome to bring their own equipment or use the media technology available on site.

Submit a reservation request via Confluence (accessible with your university ID via BONNET or VPN) including your preferred date. You will receive confirmation from us shortly thereafter.
If you are using the Media Laboratory for the first time, an introduction will be provided, and a key will be issued to you for the duration of your booking.
The Media Laboratory at the BZH is exclusively intended for the production of audiovisual teaching and learning media for studies, research, and teaching at the University of Bonn.
Yes. The Media Laboratory is also available to students, as well as to student tutors and mentors, who wish to create audiovisual media for their studies or tutorials.
Before using the Media Laboratory for the first time, you will receive an introduction. You can also receive support from our staff and student assistants.
If you require ongoing support, we recommend involving a student assistant (SHK) who can be trained by our team.
Yes. Both students and instructors interested in using the Media Laboratory can take part in training sessions offered by the BZH.
