Could you describe your research topic to someone from another discipline in one sentence?
I study how changes in the atmosphere’s mass can influence gravity measurements taken by satellites in space.
Why did you decide to do your doctorate in Bonn?
My initial excitement came from the opportunity to be part of a dynamic, international research group through the “New Refined Observations of Climate Change from Spaceborne Gravity Missions (NEROGRAV)” project, which aligned perfectly with my research interests. As I explored more about the work of my supervisor and co-supervisor and some of other mentors of the research project, I felt confident that I would receive strong guidance and grow both technically and academically under their mentorship.
The University of Bonn’s reputation, being home to several Nobel laureates and deeply involved in global research collaborations, made it an ideal environment. Its international academic culture, combined with the chance to work with leading institutions, has truly expanded both my academic and cultural perspective.
What do you especially like about the University of Bonn?
Apart from being located in a very beautiful Bonn city, University of Bonn is quite International and offers wide ranges of opportunities to enjoy learning the skills you are interested in. I especially enjoyed the doctoral plus workshops on variety of interesting and relevant topics like Young Entrepreneur in Science (YES) and others.
Do you have a tip on how to overcome the lack of motivation during difficult phases of the dissertation?
Self pep talk! in a broader sense just having an internal positive dialogue with yourself, I feel you can be the best motivator for yourself as you know you!
What advice would you give new doctoral researchers at the University of Bonn?
Just couple of things really: Organise, Prioritize and Focus! Do not hesitate to reach out and above all make it fun!
Maja E. Keller, the doctoral student introduced in our April issue, wanted to know: How do you look after your mental health?
Yeah, I understand that PhD time could be filled with highs and lows in that context. So, I rely on my cozy group of family, friends and mentors whom I regard as my support system. Also as said, a healthy mind lives in a healthy body, I prefer to include the 8-8-8 rule in my life with some time to do meditation and monitor my thoughts everyday.
We would like to thank you for the interview and wish you all the best and every success for the future!
