A Roadmap to an International Academic Career
The "Argelander Career Talks" are an online event series which aims to portrait both international academic careers as well as science systems in other countries. In several talks spread throughout the semester, selected professors working in countries around the globe will share their experiences from their individual career path and give advice for a successful academic career abroad. The lecture series is aimed at early-careers researchers of all subject areas, irrespective of the research field of the invited professor.

Monday, September 7, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. - 3 p.m. (CET, Bonn time): Prof. Dr. Roberto Hofmeister Pich, Philosophy, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil.
Professor Roberto Hofmeister Pich is an accomplished Professor of Philosophy at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and a Bonn University Ambassador. His research focuses on medieval and early modern philosophy, philosophy of religion, and the intellectual history of Latin America, particularly colonial scholasticism and the philosophical history of slavery and dependency in Latin America.
Born and educated in Brazil, Professor Hofmeister Pich has pursued an international academic career shaped by long-standing collaborations with the University of Bonn and international research fellowships. Supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, he conducted research in Germany, while a Fulbright Scholarship enabled him to carry out research in the United States and gain first-hand experience with different academic and research systems.
