The "Argelander Career Talks" are an online event series which aims to portrait both international academic careers as well as science systems in other countries. In several talks spread throughout the semester, selected professors working in countries around the globe will share their experiences from their individual career path and give advice for a successfull academic career abroad. The lecture series is aimed at early-careers researchers of all subject areas, irrespective of the research field of the invited professor.

Professor Sammy Bedoui is a distinguished immunologist and Laboratory Head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Doherty Institute for Infection & Immunity, University of Melbourne, Australia.

Originally from Germany, he completed his medical degree at the Hannover Medical School. His research stays took him to Ireland and Japan before he continued his scientific career in Australia.

Professor Sammy Bedoui’s research focuses on how the immune system decodes environmental and pathogen-derived signals. His work explores how these signals ensure that immune responses are precisely tailored to the specific needs of the host and restricted to situations where they are truly required.
