Prof. Dr. Klaus Sandmann, Vice Rector for Learning, Teaching and University Development, thanked the lecturers on behalf of the university for their special commitment. "They succeeded not only in engaging students in terms of content, but also in igniting a passion for discourse. Their teaching is distinguished by an exceptionally appreciative approach to students," he emphasized.

Despite the coronavirus situation and the massive restrictions, the lecturers had managed to meet individual needs. An "academic comfort zone" has emerged, according to student opinions. The award winners developed and used new digital forms of teaching, including podcasts and digital excursions. They were also creative in their use of the digital teaching tools established by the university. "They used the available resources didactically wisely and made them interesting," the vice rector added.

The award is intended to motivate the lecturers to continue their extraordinary commitment in the years to come and also to inspire colleagues that it is worthwhile to experiment beyond the usual teaching methods.
