The Jagiellonian Library in Krakow is the oldest and second largest library in Poland. It has some similarities with the ULB Bonn, such as its tradition-rich old holdings or its role as a place that serves to maintain cultural memory.
In the future, the libraries want to cooperate more and learn from each other. At the heart of the cooperation agreement is an annual exchange of staff from both institutions. Each year, either one person for two weeks or two people for one week each will have the opportunity to participate in professional study visits and to come and see the partner library. Travel and lodging expenses will be shared by the two institutions.
"The employees of the two libraries are very much looking forward to the exchange. As places of certified information and pluralistic debate, libraries make an important contribution to democracy," says Dr. Ulrich Meyer-Doerpinghaus, director of the ULB. "Especially against this background, we see the cooperation as a contribution to strengthening the friendship between Poland and Germany at the level of civil society."
The cooperation fits into the strategic concept of the University of Excellence to strengthen and expand its regional, national and international networks ("WE foster networks").
