Just like its predecessors, the third Quality Conference had an impact right across the University of Bonn thanks to the kind of participatory approach that characterizes the University’s understanding of quality assurance. It brought together all the key people responsible for quality management in teaching and learning, most notably members of the evaluation project groups, deans of studies, degree program managers and students. “I’m delighted by how wholeheartedly everyone involved contributed to the Quality Conference,” says Professor Klaus Sandmann, Vice Rector for Teaching, Learning and University Development. “Their ideas, visions and suggestions will play a key role in our efforts to further the development of teaching and learning at our University.”
Part of overarching system accreditation
The Quality Conference, which is held regularly and features representatives from all status groups, forms an integral part of the quality management system. It was introduced in 2023 as part of the University of Bonn’s project to obtain system accreditation, which it achieved in March of this year. This meant that its internal quality assurance system for teaching and learning, devised in a participative process, was recognized as efficient, reliable and fit for the future. The University is thus now authorized to award the seal of the Accreditation Council to its own degree programs on the basis of clearly defined standards that are binding nationwide, after conducting a corresponding internal review. As Sandmann explains: “In the Quality Conference, we have a tool in our armory that is helping us to keep on consolidating the excellence of our teaching and learning.”
