The University of Bonn performed particularly well in several categories: “Equality” (first among German universities and 24th worldwide), “Health & Wellbeing” (second in Germany and 46th worldwide), “Environmental Research” (fourth in Germany and 64th worldwide) and “Social Impact” (fourth in Germany and 78th worldwide).

“With our sustainability strategy and our University-wide Bonn Program for Sustainable Transformation (BOOST), we’re promoting a sustainable transformation across the board, from our research and teaching all the way through to our operations,” explains Professor Annette Scheersoi, Vice Rector for Sustainability at the University of Bonn. “We think it’s important to consider sustainability in all its various dimensions, so I’m delighted that we’ve performed so well, especially in terms of social sustainability. It shows how our whole-institution approach is enabling us to carve out an excellent position for ourselves, including in an international comparison, and that we’re making good progress with the work we’re doing.”

The University of Bonn has moved up both in the overall rankings and in eight of the categories and subcategories assessed, in some cases significantly. However, the results are only comparable with last year’s to a limited extent due to a change in the ranking methodology and a near-doubling of the number of universities included.
