Many of the new friends and supporters recently gathered to celebrate the opening of the magnificent exhibition featuring the Pohl-Goldschmidt *Kunstkammer* (cabinet of curiosities) collection. Sheer delight at the fascinating objects within this Renaissance treasure trove was written on the faces of the Society members. The collector himself felt the same way, as all the exhibits are presented and scientifically curated exactly as he had envisioned.
The new support association brings together mathematics professors, art lovers, watchmakers, precision mechanics, historians from various fields, librarians, artists, graphic designers, and musicians. Through their commitment to the Arithmeum, the members of this circle aim—not least—to preserve and carry forward the legacy of its founder, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Bernhard Korte. They already form an international circle of supporters and companions extending far beyond Bonn and the surrounding region. Wulf-Mathies notes: "Many people out there are unaware that, thanks to the work of Bernhard Korte and under the leadership of current director Ina Prinz, the Arithmeum houses both an outstanding mathematics research institute of the University of Bonn and a museum containing the world's largest and most unique collection of calculating machines." The Friends and Patrons Association therefore aims to further boost the Arithmeum’s profile and draw more people’s attention to its significant collections and its scientific and cultural offerings, explains Wulf-Mathies. Moreover, the Arithmeum is an architectural work of art in which applied mathematics and geometric-constructive art engage in a unique dialogue. Even the acoustic dimension of this *Gesamtkunstwerk*—this total work of art—can be experienced when the "concerti discreti" are performed, adds the association’s chairwoman.
The Society of Friends and Supporters aims to assist in the acquisition of new exhibits, help develop the museum’s educational programs, and foster connections between mathematical knowledge and cultural influences—thereby encouraging exchange among people from diverse walks of life who share an interest in science, technology, and/or culture.
Members of the Society enjoy free admission to the Arithmeum, receive invitations to exhibition openings, and have the opportunity to meet collectors and researchers in person. Furthermore, they benefit from exclusive guided tours, lectures, and other special events, while receiving regular updates on the Arithmeum’s activities and developments. In addition to individual ("Leibniz"), partner ("Ada Lovelace"), and family ("Schickard") memberships, the Society offers membership options for companies and major donors. Membership is open to both individuals and corporate entities. One-time donations are also warmly welcomed; these directly support the Arithmeum’s work and objectives.
Prof. Dr. Ina Prinz, Director of the Arithmeum, summarizes the benefits of joining the Society of Friends and Supporters of the Arithmeum (*Gesellschaft der Freunde und Förderer des Arithmeums e.V.*) as follows: "Culture connects people—especially when shared."
