Extended summer hours start April 1

Starting next Wednesday, April 1, 2026, summer hours will once again be in effect at the University of Bonn’s Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Garden at Poppelsdorf Castle and the Medicinal and Ornamental Plant Garden on Katzenburgweg will then be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Thursdays even until 8 p.m. Admission is free on weekdays; on weekends and holidays, an admission fee of 5 euros (reduced rate 3 euros) applies.

From Wednesday, April 1, through the end of October 2026, the following rules will apply:

- Hours: daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays until 8 p.m. Greenhouses close half an hour earlier.

- On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, an admission fee of 5 euros (reduced rate 3 euros) applies for visits to the Botanical Garden at Poppelsdorf Castle. Children under 12 and members of the Friends of the Botanical Gardens Association (Freundeskreis der Botanischen Gärten e.V.) receive free admission. Access to the castle gardens is then only possible via the main entrance on the castle forecourt.

- From Monday through Friday, the gardens remain open free of charge. In addition to the main entrance, the side entrance at Meckenheimer Allee 171 is also open during these times.

- Admission to the Medicinal and Ornamental Plant Garden at Katzenburgweg 3 is always free. The same opening hours apply there.

The popular events during the summer months can also take place as planned. It all kicks off the weekend after Easter (April 11–12) with the exhibition and market for carnivorous plants in the palace gardens, followed by the Spring Festival in the Melbgarten on Sunday, April 26.

The admission fee charged on weekends and holidays helps fund additional seasonal staff required to extend the opening hours. The seasonal staff supervise the gardens and handle their opening and closing. They also answer questions from visitors.
