The Internationalization Commission

The University has been working systematically since 2015 to improve the framework for the internationalization of Bonn as a place to study. A successful audit (2017–2018) and re-audit (2019–2024) under the “Internationalization of Universities” scheme of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) firmly embedded the issue in the minds of the faculties and central units. This commitment is reflected in subsidiary internationalization strategies being adopted by five out of the seven faculties and a University-wide committee for internationalization being made permanent.

Led by the Vice Rectorate for International Affairs, this International Commission meets twice a year and encourages regular dialogue on international matters among all status groups at the University of Bonn. It is strengthening cooperation between key people from all status groups involved in international affairs at central and decentralized level and provides a forum where University management’s strategic considerations can be discussed and needs can be elicited.

The vision of a truly international university can only become a reality if all its organizational units work together. As a network for dialogue between central and decentralized units, the Internationalization Commission is helping to drive the University of Bonn’s international transformation forward. The faculty-based internationalization officers and status group representatives share information and concerns from their organizational units and convey details of University management’s strategic objectives.
