My research activity focuses on variational problems with applications to materials science, in particular in elasticity and plasticity. This includes pattern formation in thin elastic sheets and shape-memory alloys, macroscopic models for crystal plasticity, their relaxation and their derivation from an atomistic basis, and the study of dislocations in crystals.
