My main research interests lie in the following areas: intersections between epistemology and medical ethics (evidence-practices, EBM-critique, patient-generated evidence FOR 2448|1); handling of errors and strategies of error avoidance in medicine both historically and on the basis of current efforts to detect and prevent errors (GA 1086/6-1); the existential, medical-ethical and cultural significance of prediction with the associated preventive measures; patient narratives as sources of narrative-based ethics as well as ethics and cancer; currently, my research focuses on discipline-specific analyses of the hierarchies of medical evidence (FOR 2448|2) and on the meaning of vigilance the medical culture (SFB 1369).
