The Bonn-based scientists fitted a cytochrome molecule

with a magnetic label (blue-yellow-red structure top right). In this case, part of the cytochrome (red) itself acted as a second label; no further marker was thus required. Using their method, the researchers were then able to ascertain the distance between both labels.
