Nationally, the University of Bonn has been able to retain its outstanding fourth rank behind Munich’s two universities and Heidelberg University. These four Universities of Excellence are the only German universities in the world’s top 100. In terms of the number of Nobel laureates or Fields Medalists produced, the University of Bonn outranks its national competitors by far.
“In spectacular fashion, the ranking shows yet again that the University of Bonn is among the most research-intensive universities in Germany, the European Union and the world,” says Professor Michael Hoch, Rector of the University. “We’re working hard on creating optimal conditions for researchers and a superb environment to conduct innovative research projects, and success proves us right. So we will continue on this path in the years ahead.”
The renowned Shanghai Ranking, which has now been published every year since way back in 2003, focuses on research. No fewer than 1,000 universities are assessed against six indicators, including academic publications and high-profile awards. Fifty-one German universities made it onto this year’s overall list.
