Starting now, experts will discuss the most exciting topics in economic research regularly in the new German-language podcast of the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute: Markets and Public Policy, based at the Universities of Bonn and Cologne. In the first season, the podcast deals with questions of gender in the world of economics. The podcast is available on Spotify, Soundcloud and Deezer.

Are women being discriminated against in economic research? Do social norms still force mothers into traditional gender roles nowadays? And do women get worse advice than men in financial counselling? In the first podcast episode, Prof. Guido Friebel, head of the Department of Human Resources at Goethe University in Frankfurt, talks about women in economics. He analysed the gender distribution in European economics research institutions and identified major international differences. Together with Carolin Jackermeier, Junior Science Editor at ECONtribute, he discusses barriers in academic careers in economics, gender equality and women's quotas.

Each 20-30 minutes episode of "ECONtribute - Der Wirtschaftspodcast",highlights a topic from the research of the Cluster of Excellence and provides insights into the work of the researchers. The upcoming episodes will focus on the compatibility of family and career and gender based differences in financial counselling.
