Geology is a research-oriented master’s degree program that features a high share of practical field, laboratory and computer-assisted work. By gathering practical experience and theoretical knowledge, students grow professionally and develop the necessary process understanding to pursue a professional career in this field.

The master’s degree program Geology focuses on exogenous processes of the Earth and offers a wide range of courses with the following points of emphasis: General Geology, Applied Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Geology, Geological Risks, Sedimentology and Structural Geology. Through their choices and the priorities they set within the broad spectrum of this discipline, students can create individual degree profiles to match their personal interests, abilities and professional plans. The degree program includes a small group of compulsory modules that is common to all three geosciences master’s degree programs (Paleontology, Geology and Geochemistry/Petrology). These joint courses promote the scientific exchange of ideas among students. In addition, students gain an overview of the different work methods in the various specialized areas of geosciences, which opens up the prospect of interdisciplinary projects.

Possible lines of work:

Applied geology (groundwater resources, development aid, environmental protection, georisks), ministries and government offices (environmental protection), geological services, raw materials exploration/use and production materials (industrial sector), public relations, museums, academia (teaching/research at universities, research institutions, etc.)
