Bonn University Ambassadors
Academics and scholars from all over the world do research and teaching at the University of Bonn, creating an international environment which greatly enriches the campus and educational institution as a whole—and which we take pride in. The Bonn University Ambassadors are former visiting researchers whose academic relationship with the University of Bonn became extraordinarily close and personal, making them the ideal individuals to answer questions about doing a doctorate, research and teaching here, being able to speak from their own experience.
What is it like for international researchers at the University of Bonn?
The fifteen Bonn University Ambassadors either did their doctorate here, had a lengthy research stay or taught here for a long time. These prominent researchers located around the globe serve as worldwide contacts for anyone potentially interested in studying and working at the University of Bonn. Prof. Dr. Birgit Ulrike Münch, Vice Rector for International Affairs: “We are greatly pleased to know that our institution is being represented abroad by such high-caliber individuals.” The Bonn University Ambassadors were formed as a group to strengthen us in terms of international networking, functioning as local go-tos for researchers who are considering Bonn and have questions.

The Bonn University Ambassadors
Senior Ambassadors
The Senior Ambassadors are international researchers who have represented the University of Bonn abroad as Ambassador on many occasions throughout the past. Similar to an emeritus, they still have close ties with the University even and are are available as strategic advisors.
The Bonn University Ambassador Meeting 2024
The Bonn University Ambassadors met again last year as part of International Days 2024. The annual meetings demonstrate their close ties to Bonn, network our Ambassadors even more closely with other members of the university, initiate new programs in teaching and research and thus sustainably strengthen the further development of the program in terms of content.
The Bonn University Ambassadors not only take the latest news and materials for their work as ambassadors of the University of Bonn back to their home universities, they also provide their German alma mater with valuable input for the further development of our programs for (international) early career researchers.
About the program
The Bonn University Ambassadors were introduced in a pilot project in 2018, as a logical continuation of years of promotional work done by University of Bonn research alumni throughout the past. The Vice Rectorate for International Affairs has strategic responsibility for the program.
