Philosophy

The degree program Philosophy offers a research-oriented environment for students to deepen their knowledge of and specialize in the areas of history of philosophy and contemporary philosophy as well as in theoretical and practical philosophy. Students can develop an individual profile within broad thematic areas ranging from logic and epistemology to metaphysics and philosophy of religion, (applied) ethics, natural and cultural philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of mind and philosophy of language.

Students learn to put their acquired knowledge into the context of current theories and discourses in their fields and to critically question historical positions. Students benefit from a wide diversity and large number of professorships and their interdisciplinary relations, covering the entire spectrum of philosophical teaching and research.

 

Possible lines of work:

Non-academic ethics institutes, ethics commissions, academia (research management, teaching/research at universities and research institutions), private economy/administration (personnel selection/development, corporate consulting, career/academic counseling), policy consulting, academic, political and cultural organizations, adult education, journalism (editing at news agencies, radio, television), book industry (archives, libraries, publishers), management

Examination Regulations (German versions are legally binding)

University degree (German or non-German) in a relevant discipline

German language proficiency (DSH level 2, CEFR level C1, as per DSH exam. regulations)

Minimum grade of 3.0 or local equivalent

Specific modules: Philosophy modules (a minimum of 36 ECTS), with proven knowledge and competence with regards to the following: Introduction to theoretical or practical philosophy (a minimum of 6 ECTS); Introduction to the history of philosophy (a minimum of 6 ECTS)
