Specifics of Dagur People's Lifestyle and Songs
This contribution focuses on the Dagur people – a group of the
Mongolic people who live in the northeastern part of Inner Mongolia
– and their traditional songs. Examining these songs there is a lot to
discover about the former lifestyle, culture and religious traditions of
the Dagurs, as well as about their language and script.
The research is based mainly on the fieldwork data collected in 2016
and 2017 in Huhhot and Hailar (Inner Mongolia) respectively and
compared to the earlier sources on Dagur language and folklore
(Poppe 1930, Todaeva 1986). Futhermore, the earliest recording of a
Dagur song ever done by the Danish traveller H. Haslund-Christensen
in the late 1930th will be discussed.
