Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy
The Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy (BCGS) is a joint graduate program of the Universities of Bonn and Cologne. It brings together master's and doctoral students in physics and astrophysics.
The BCGS offers a master's program in physics and astrophysics, open to students holding a bachelor's degree in physics or a related field. Doctoral students who have secured a PhD position at one of the partner universities are likewise members of the Graduate School.
Please note that the BCGS does not provide PhD positions. Students who wish to pursue a doctorate are responsible for identifying and applying for a PhD position independently.

Short Description
For Physics, the PhD program involves three years of research-oriented thesis work, leading to a doctoral degree in the field of physics. Scientific interests are centered on activities in applied and quantum optics, nuclear, and particle physics, physics of condensed matter, statistical physics, astroparticle physics, and mathematical physics.
For Astrophysics/Astronomy the PhD program involves three years of research-oriented thesis work, leading to a doctoral degree in Astrophysics/Astronomy. Scientific interests are centered on activities in optical, radio, and X-ray astronomy, stellar evolution and dynamics, gravitational lensing, cosmology, pulsar studies.
