Engineering the Climate

Global warming is dangerous. Can we halt it through technology? Scientist and policy makers have begun to discuss a set of highly controversial measures that propose just that: So-called geoengineering measures. The Forum Internationale Wissenschaft at the University of Bonn is hosting an expert roundtable to discuss these measures and their impact on global climate policy. The starting point of the discussion is the recent publication of Julia Schubert's „Engineering the Climate“. The book examines the interplay of science and politics in the emergence of geoengineering approaches within U.S. climate policy.
The roundtable will feature Prof. Dr. David Kaldewey (University of Bonn), Dr. Jeroen Oomen (University of Utrecht), and Prof. Dr. Simone Rödder (University of Hamburg). Together with the author Dr. Julia Schubert, these experts will discuss the implications of geoengineering for the role of science and technology in addressing climate change and other societal challenges.
