DESCRIPTION:Global warming is dangerous. Can we halt it through technology
? Scientist and policy makers have begun to discuss a set of highly contro
versial measures that propose just that: So-called geoengineering measures
. The Forum Internationale Wissenschaft at the University of Bonn is hosti
ng an expert roundtable to discuss these measures and their impact on glob
al climate policy. The starting point of the discussion is the recent publ
ication of Julia Schubert's „Engineering the Climate“. The book examin
es the interplay of science and politics in the emergence of geoengineerin
g approaches within U.S. climate policy. \nThe roundtable will feature Pro
 f. Dr. David Kaldewey (University of Bonn)\, Dr. Jeroen Oomen (University
of Utrecht)\, and Prof. Dr. Simone Rödder (University of Hamburg). Togeth
er with the author Dr. Julia Schubert\, these experts will discuss the imp
lications of geoengineering for the role of science and technology in addr
essing climate change and other societal challenges.
