Description

You will learn about the applicable framework conditions and the complex expectations of the various parties involved in the supervisory process and deal actively and purposefully with (typical) challenges in the supervisory relationship. This will strengthen your self-efficacy and enable you to develop individual options for action to create a constructive supervisory dynamic.

Content

  • Formal and customary conditions for doctoral supervision (e.g. doctoral regulations, doctoral agreements, guidelines for good scientific practice)
  • Informal conditions: dealing with expectations, demands and needs your own and those of your supervisors
  • Clarification of roles: What are the tasks and responsibilities of doctoral candidates, and what are those of their supervisors?
  • Supervision styles: how do my supervisor and I work well together?
  • Factors contributing to the success or failure of a doctoral thesis
  • Actively shaping the supervisory relationship: goal-oriented and sustainable communication and action strategies
  • Making effective use of supervision meetings: preparation – implementation – follow-up
  • First aid for challenges in the supervisory relationship
