Supporting transformation in food systems and bio-economies

To address wicked problems like climate change, resource degradation, biodiversity loss, and planetary boundaries, there's a call for transforming food systems and bio-economies. Advances in robotics, AI, synthetic biology, and nanotechnology offer new possibilities. Public, private, and third-sector actors in agricultural innovation systems (AIS) work on transforming food systems with concepts like agroecology, Agriculture 4.0, vertical farming, and more. This shift makes AIS increasingly mission-driven. This presentation explores mission-driven AIS, their boundaries, policy roles in innovation and exnovation, and the politics involved. Examples from countries like the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Chile illustrate emerging AIS in practice.
