Museum seminar in Evolutionary and Environmental Genomics

Miklos Balint is interested in functional environmental genomics, long-term biodiversity dynamics, community ecology and molecular methods for biodiversity research. He is head of the research group 'Functional environmental genomics’ at LOEWE Centre for translational biodiversity genomics. He investigates genomics of soil invertebrates, a major part of unknown biodiversity. It is estimated that for every known species there are about 20 that are still undescribed. These invertebrates are important contributors of ecosystem services essential for humanity, such as disease control, nutrient cycling, soil formation, or even primary production.
