Managing Scientific Projects

A workshop offered by the Bonn Graduate Center

A large part of our work is organized as projects. This applies not only to industry or other non-academic fields, but also, of course, to science. Project management skills are therefore often required and considered a prerequisite for organizing your own research project.

Description

A large part of our work is organized as projects. This applies not only to industry or other non-academic fields, but also, of course, to science. Project management skills are therefore often required and considered to be necessary for organizing your own research project.

The workshop adresses doctoral students with no or only little project management
knowledge and will teach basic tools and terms, including IT tools, and provide insight into new trends such as agile project management. Throughout the workshop, the participants will be actively involved and work on different tasks. Since the workshop encourages exchange and communication, please make sure your camera and microphone are working and ready to use.

Content

  • What is a project? And how do you approach it?
  • Structuring of tasks and planning of project phases.
  • How do you develop a Gantt Diagram?
  • How do you define aims, identify risks and stakeholders?
  • The use of IT tools for planning and controlling a project and the related tasks.
