Juneteenth Lecture with Kinohi Nishikawa
Join us for a compelling lecture by Professor Kinohi Nishikawa (Princeton University) titled "What Comes Before the Haunting? Toni Morrison’s Late Style in A Mercy."
This talk explores how Morrison’s 2008 novel A Mercy reimagines the legacy of slavery by envisioning a world before its full establishment. Drawing on archival materials, Nishikawa examines how Morrison’s narrative challenges the framework of the “afterlife of slavery,” a concept developed by Saidiya Hartman.
