Description
Although this workshop is open to everyone, it is primarily geared towards cluster users. That means that neither Graphical User Interfaces nor topics that require root access (e.g. installation, administration) are covered. All topics covered are distro-independent.
No prior knowledge is necessary. It is also not necessary to have cluster access beforehand.
- Registration happens via eCampus: Simply join this workshop like any other eCampus course (Uni-ID required).
- The maximum number of participants is 12. If more people register, we will look into repeating the course.
Content
- Using the command line
- The ideas behind concepts like users, files, processes and permissions
- Navigating the Linux directory structure
- Handling text and other files from the console
- The Vim text editor
- A brief introduction automating tasks with shell scripting
