Introduction to Finance and Controlling
A workshop offered by the Bonn Graduate Center
Economic skills are indispensable in many specialist and management tasks. The aim of the workshop is to explain fundamental economic concepts in a coherent way for participants to understand the relations between the different business entities. The workshop is practice-oriented with case studies to deliver a hand-on learning experience for participants.

Description
Main topics include:
- Finance, accounting & controlling as business core functions (compared to secondary functions)
- Balance sheet, P&L, equity and debt
- Accounting and corporate fraud (e.g. Wirecard)
- Challenges and opportunities of digitalisation and sustainability on corporates (Artificial Intelligence, data analystics and regulatory framework, e.g. data protection laws and EU Green Deal)
- Reflection of impact on other business functions. i.e. human resources, marketing, strategy
Content
- Integrated and concrete learning by applying theory in practice
- Learn to oppose and differentiate between theory and practice
- Market-oriented thinking and interpretation of market situations and results
- Problem structuring and problem-solving abilities as well as teamwork and cooperation in decision-making within the group
- Learn to differentiate between the different forms of corporate finance and the impact of power distribution
- Learn to recognize the importance of the financial plan and the link between financial plan, accounting, balance sheet and P&L
