Reforming policies, institutions and governance for healthy and sustainable food systems

Vortrag
Einreichungs-/Anmeldefrist 08.10.2019
Referent/in: Dr. Shenggen Fan, Director General of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington D.C., U.S.A.
Inhalt:

Food systems play a key role in nurturing human and planetary health, yet currently they endanger both. After decades of progress, hunger is on the rise with more than 820 million people suffering from chronic undernourishment; 149 million children are stunted; and almost 2 billion people are overweight or obese. Transforming food systems that deliver on health and sustainability goals will require policies, institutions, and governance mechanisms that create an enabling environment. Moreover, data and evidence will be critical to implement and monitor global food system transformation. CGIAR (and IFPRI have refreshed its research agenda to harness new opportunities amidst a changing global landscape and to respond to emerging issues. This seminar will discuss how innovative and evidence-based approaches to policy, institutions, and governance can reshape food systems to achieve multiple development goals in the context of rapid global change.
