Successful speculative applications

A good application strategy always includes the speculative applicaton, i.e. the unsolicited sending of application documents. This form of application offers many benefits:

 

  • Your application has littleo or no competition
  • You demonstrate commitment, initiative and motivation
  • When formulating your qualities, you do not have to take into account the requierments of a job advertisement, but can instead present yourself in whatever manner appears most beneficial to you
  • If there are not currently any vacancies, the HR manager may keep your applicaton on file if you have impressed him/her with it

 

Any speculative application should be preceded by intensive research and a telephone conversation with the HR or specialist department of the company. In doing so, you investigate the personnel needs in advance, discover the name of the recipient of the application, and also research general information about the potential employer.

The speculative application corresponds to the tradititional application in terms of its form and structure. The only difference is that you should specifically state in the cover letter what kind of job you are looking for and why you are interested in working for this particular company.
