The goal of this measure is to strengthen international networks and to include international research alumni in activities that support young academics.

Who are international research alumni?

 

International research alumni are researchers who currently work outside of Germany and who have already been in Bonn for at least one short research stay. Research alumni with German citizenship cannot be considered in this program.

 

Who can apply?

  • Professors from all departments of the University of Bonn
  • Coordinators of Bonn graduate schools and doctoral programs
  • International research alumni 

What does the funding include?

 

Funding covers travel and accommodation expenses for the international research alumnus/a, namely a flat travel rate (based on the country of origin) and a flat accommodation rate of 96 euros per day (for up to 5 days).

 

In order to receive funding, the international research alumnus/a must be involved in activities that support young academics at the University of Bonn (e.g. as part of the qualification program of graduate schools, offering a block seminar for doctoral students or similar). The funded travel must take place in 2019 and cannot be awarded for past visits.

 

How are applications submitted?


Applications must be submitted electronically by 30 January 2019 via the application portal.

Apart from the form sheet, applications should include the following documents:

  • Academic résumé of the international research alumnus/a1
  • Description of former contacts and cooperation between the international research alumnus/a and the University of Bonn (max. 1 page) as well as description of how the international research alumnus/a will be involved in measures that support young academics
  • Brief explanation of the reasons for choosing the international research alumnus/a; or in case of self-applications from international research alumni: letter of support from the host (max. 1 page)

What selection criteria are used?

The following criteria are evaluated:

  • Academic excellence of the international research alumnus/a
  • Former cooperation between the host and the international research alumnus/a
  • Extent and quality of the international research alumnus’/a’s involvement in measures that support young academics at the University of Bonn
  • Academic quality of the research environment of the host

The selection is made by an interdisciplinary selection committee.
