Training and continuing education within the Argelander Program for Early-Career Researchers qualification program, Doctorate Plus, is divided into four modules – each designed to help you focus on the area that best suits your needs.

Module 1: Independent Research

Learn new techniques to approach and organize your academic work in this series of workshops. Topics include structuring a doctoral project and dissertation defense practice. You’ll also get tips on writing research proposals, the structure of the German academic system and general academic best practices.

Module 2: Developing Competences

Offered in partnership with the University of Bonn’s HR Development Department, this module will help you develop cross-departmental competences – including leadership skills and presenting in an academic context. The module also includes innovative methodology seminars to help you generate and implement ideas for your own research.

Module 3: Learning to Teach

Offered by the Bonner Zentrum für Hochschullehre (Bonn Center for University Teaching), this module includes basic qualification courses for higher-education didactics. It will help you develop your skills during your initial higher-education teaching experiences and provide professional support as you plan your academic future.

Module 4: Career Management

Offered in partnership with the University’s Career Center and HR Development Department, this module includes courses to help you begin your postdoctoral career. You’ll benefit from workshops on professional orientation, job applications and career management – as well as informational events about career paths in the fields of science, business and culture.
