Tenure-track at the University of Bonn

The tenure-track professorship as a career path has been established at the University of Bonn since 2009. When a professorship is advertised, tenure-track means being offered a lifetime professorship after a limited probationary period and, if the evaluation is successful, a tenure-track professorship.

Vacancies for professorships

The aim of tenure-track procedures is to provide young scientists with an alternative career path to professorship. The University of Bonn intends to attract and retain excellent young scientists from Germany and abroad at an early stage of their career. After a successful final evaluation, the tenure-track professorship becomes a permanent professorship and thus offers an attractive career path with prospects.

Tenure-Track Committee

Each faculty has formed a tenure-track committee that accompanies the respective tenure-track procedure throughout the entire period from the announcement to the final evaluation.

The central tenure-track committee of the University of Bonn reviews the compliance of the faculties with the evaluation criteria, taking into account the respective faculty or subject cultures in an appropriate manner. It makes a recommendation to the Rectorate regarding the extension or continuation of the professorship in question on the basis of the respective tenure-track dossier, the votes of the tenure-track commission of the faculty, and the Faculty Council. The central tenure-track committee corresponds to the committee for special appointment procedures in accordance with the appointment regulations.
