W3 Professorship for Physiology

at the Institute of Physiology to be filled on a permanent basis at the earliest opportunity.

An internationally recognized personality is being sought who represents the field of cardiovascular physiology in research and autonomic physiology in teaching at the highest level, has a pronounced interdisciplinary orientation, and strengthens the Faculty’s research profile in the long term. 

The new professor will establish and lead a dedicated research group in the field of cardiovascular research. This involves close integration into the Faculty’s key research area “Cardiovascular and Metabolic Sciences,” such as involvement in DFG Collaborative Research Centers (TRR259 “Aortic Disease,” TRR333 “Brown and Beige Fat,” or SFB1454 “Metaflammation”). In addition, a connection to the other key research areas of the Faculty of Medicine is desired, such as “Neuroscience” and “Immunoscience.” 

The future holder of the position will assume teaching duties in the pre-clinical phase of the Human Medicine and Dentistry degree programs, as well as other degree programs at the Faculty of Medicine, supervise doctoral candidates and postdocs, and be actively involved in academic self-governance. 

The successful candidate must have completed a university degree in medicine or science, have a habilitation or evidence of equivalent academic achievements, and extensive teaching experience in accordance with section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW). The ability to teach in German is a prerequisite. Qualification as a specialist in physiology or specialist physiologist is desirable.
