W2 Professorship for Translational and Data-driven Precision Medicine

is to be filled at the earliest opportunity as part of a joint appointment according to the Jülich model.

The candidate should be proven internationally in the field of research of translational and data-driven precision medicine.

The focus of the research activities should lie on human cohort studies with multilayered, high-dimensional datasets using swarm learning and/or machine learning.

Alongside excellent technical expertise and publications, the job holder is expected to have experience in successfully acquiring national and international third-party funding and extensive experience in independent research group management. Experience is required in teaching, in the scientific supervision of employees, in methodical research, and in interdisciplinary collaboration between the fields of biomedical fundamental research, genomics with a focus on single-cell analysis, systems medicine, human immunology, translational clinical research, and data science. In particular, research questions relating to biomarker development, the prediction of treatment outcomes using national and European data protection-compliant data processing and federated learning methods should be addressed. The professorship will also focus on the management of data concerning health with regard to its use for AI applications.

A connection to the research foci of the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Bonn, in particular the Bonn Center of Immunology (BCI) with the Cluster of Excellence ImmunoSensation² and the Center for Medical Data Usability and Translation (ZMDT), is desired. On the part of the DZNE, the aim is for the professorship to take on the management of the Swarm Learning Hub based at the DZNE. The appointment is carried out jointly by the University of Bonn and the DZNE Bonn. The appointee (m/f/d) will be employed with a full professorship in a civil service employment relationship with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and granted leave of absence to the DZNE, insofar as the requirements under civil service law are fulfilled. The appointment is permanent. The selection is carried out jointly by the DZNE and the University of Bonn.

The successful candidate must have completed a university degree in biology, biomedicine, medicine, or a related subject, have a habilitation or evidence of equivalent academic achievements, and experience of teaching in accordance with section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW).
