Panel discussion based on the play by Jan Neumann and the ensemble. The Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) Individuals, Institutions, and Societies, in collaboration with Theater Bonn, invites you to a dynamic exchange between the arts and academia. Together, we will explore where and how we experience different forms of loneliness, and what artistic expressions might emerge, for example, from the interplay between loneliness and social transformation: Where do we experience loneliness? How does loneliness mark, reinforce, assert, or breach the boundaries between the inner and the outer worlds? Does loneliness help us process social transformations, or is it reinforced by them? Does loneliness lead to “conspiracy ideation” as a personality trait? How do we deal with death as a dimension of loneliness? Are there differences between social, emotional, and romantic loneliness?
Canada as a Model? With its multicultural social model and pluralistic immigration policy, Canada is regarded as an international benchmark, particularly in the area of refugee resettlement. Combined with its managed, points-based immigration mechanisms, all of this has earned Canada a reputation as a country with an outstanding “culture of welcome.” In a North American comparison, Canada is often viewed as the “more liberal alternative” to the United States. The lecture examines to what extent this image still holds true. The focus is on changes in the management of migration and refugee flows, shifts in political rhetoric, and new tensions between domestic political interests, humanitarian obligations, and economic pressures. Drawing on current reforms and political debates, the presentation analyzes whether and how Canada’s approach is transforming and to what extent external and internal dynamics are driving this change.
We would like to facilitate the exchange of scientists between the TRA Life and Health and the TRA Individuals and Societies by providing a creative space to find out about the interesting research outside your own comfort zone. We therefore invite open-minded scientists to an exclusive research speed dating event at the IMPULSE - House for Intellectual Innovation and Creativity. This event might be exactly what is needed to complement your research and start something innovative that would not be possible or even thinkable before. Besides a structured speed dating there will be enough time for open discussions and networking.
