DESCRIPTION:Canada as a Model? With its multicultural social model and plu
ralistic immigration policy\, Canada is regarded as an international bench
mark\, particularly in the area of refugee resettlement. Combined with its
managed\, points-based immigration mechanisms\, all of this has earned Ca
nada a reputation as a country with an outstanding “culture of welcome.
” In a North American comparison\, Canada is often viewed as the “more
liberal alternative” to the United States. The lecture examines to what
extent this image still holds true. The focus is on changes in the manage
ment of migration and refugee flows\, shifts in political rhetoric\, and n
ew tensions between domestic political interests\, humanitarian obligation
s\, and economic pressures. Drawing on current reforms and political debat
es\, the presentation analyzes whether and how Canada’s approach is tran
sforming and to what extent external and internal dynamics are driving thi
 s change.
