Could you describe your research topic to someone from another discipline in one sentence?

The Medical Treatment of Slaves in the Roman Empire.

Do you have a recommendation for a good lunch break?

A lunch break with colleagues where you don't talk about work. And the “Pie me” food truck.

Where is your favorite place to work on your dissertation? Where are you most effective?

I work most effectively in the office, where I can fully focus and I am surrounded by great people who support me.

Do you have a tip on how to overcome the lack of motivation during difficult phases of the dissertation?

Set yourself deadlines. Make progress visible. Celebrate even small successes.

What advice would you give new doctoral researchers at the University of Bonn?

Dare to ask questions!

Charles Addo Nyarko, the doctoral student introduced in our fall 2024 issue, wanted to know: How do you stop yourself from procrastinating on doing part of your work that you least enjoy?

The Pomodoro method helps me to focus and I have a self-compiled playlist on Spotify.

We would like to thank you for the interview and wish you all the best and every success for the future!
