DESCRIPTION:This bilingual workshop aims at approaching concepts of depend
 ency\, loyalty\, and belonging in early modern Ottoman society. We will fo
 cus not only on slave-slave owner relationships\, but also on patronage\, 
 servitude\, dependency on religion or on places of belonging\, and more. B
 y analyzing the lives and stories of individuals or social groups in the p
 rivate and public spheres\, we hope to draw some conclusions about strong 
 asymmetrical dependencies as they developed in early modern Ottoman societ
 y.
