 Military AI and Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems\n\nAbstract:\nIn the pas
 t decade\, AI has quickly percolated into every industry and several appli
 cation avenues\, including within the ambit of international security. Giv
 en that it is far from a perfect technology\, it has been seen to be highl
 y prone to exhibiting biases and producing flawed outputs\, and is now rec
 ognised as a ubiquitous regulation challenge.\nThis talk will take these i
 ssues into account and focus on various aspects around the development\, d
 eployment and governance of AI for military applications\, including the a
 dverse effects of AI biases. It will cover how and where AI is employed fo
 r military purposes\; how AI produces and exacerbates biases around gender
  and race\, and how these can be countered\; and what the governance parad
 igm around military AI looks like vis-à-vis discussions around LAWS at th
 e UN and at other international fora.
