Agile and Traditional Project Management

A workshop offered by the Human Resources Development

The application of the project management methodology is a critical success factor for projects in university environments as well as outside.

In this training focus is on applying traditional and agile methodologies to research projects within university environments. Participants will learn how to effectively use relevant techniques, develop essential soft skills such as communication, collaboration, and leadership, and understand the differences between academic and non-academic project management contexts.

The training will be completed by an online follow-up session approximately 3-4 months after the training in order to give support during the transfer phase.

An additional, self-organized online follow-up will focus on key topics and peer exchange. Date and moderation will be arranged during the workshop.

Content

basic understanding of the traditional project management framework as well as the agile framework SCRUM
main differences between agile and traditional project management and know, how to apply the frameworks to research and other projects
starting a project - define the scope, goals and product backlog
planning a project - develop a project breakdown structure and a project plan including milestones or in case of agile management, define the sprint structure and sprint backlogs
monitor and control project progress and manage changes
set up a project team and manage communication
analyze and manage the risks and the stakeholders
conduct project reviews, retrospektives or lessons learned meetings
dealing with difficult situations and find solutions for project issues

Do I have to pay for the event?

No. Human Resource Development will cover all the costs incurred.

An event is fully booked, is there a waiting list?

Yes. If an event is fully booked, we will put you on the waiting list. You may then move up the list if a space becomes free with enough time still to go before the event starts.

Do the rooms have barrier-free access?

The building at Poppelsdorfer Allee 31/33 is moderately accessible for people with disabilities. Please contact us in advance so that we can help you if necessary.

Is there any childcare available during the event?

If you need childcare during an event, please contact the Family Office of the University of Bonn.

Can people from outside the University take part in the event too?

The further training offers provided by Human Resource Development at the University of Bonn are only open to people who have signed a work contract with the University, are enrolled as a doctoral student, are conducting research on behalf of the University or are an associated member of a research consortium.

What does certificate or certificate of attendance mean?

For all our event offerings, you will generally receive a confirmation of participation in the event and of its contents.

In addition, we are currently developing a certificate offering along the three "Career Tracks": "Research", "Research Management" and "Business & Organizations". More information will be available soon on the related page of the certificate program: Postdoc plus.
