Conflict Management in and beyond Academia: Addressing Conflicts and Finding Solutions

A workshop offered by the Bonn Graduate Center

What is the best way to solve a particular scientific problem, or to build up a functioning development team? Who should be named as authors of our paper, and in which order? What to do if peers in the lab constantly ignore safety regulations? How do I ensure that my supervisor takes his task seriously? Wherever people work together, conflicts are most probably a part of the game. In this seminar you will learn about the advantages and pitfalls of your own conflict resolution style.

Description

We can say that conflicts can happen when opposing interests, different values, different beliefs, different motives collide. In this seminar you will learn about the advantages and pitfalls of your own conflict resolution style. You will sharpen your senses for early warning signs, and you will train how to address conflicts in an effective way as weil as how to create solutions that are beneficial for both sides. We will work with examples from inside and outside of the academic world. Bring your own cases to the seminar and get new ideas for approaching challenging situations.
