Course Content

  • Gaining awareness of intersecting diversity dimensions and "cultural glasses"
  • Becoming conscious of unconscious bias and judgements
  • Learning intercultural and diversity-conscious tools and strategies of communication
  • Attaining knowledge of key cultural dimensions and their impact on interacting, learning, teaching and motivating diverse individuals in academic settings

Course Description

By definition, much of academic work brings you in contact with diverse academics and academic administrators, many of them with international biographies. This cooperation is a great resource of creativity and different viewpoints, yet often also challenging:

  • How can I work successfully with a range of diverse people, avoiding disrespectful behaviour, discrimination or conflicts?
  • What are my cultural imprints and expectations that make me feel more comfortable in cooperating and communicating with some people and less with others?

This hightly interactive workshop enables you to become aware of our unconscious bias and to gain knowledge and competences in how to interact and communicate with many different people in a respectful, diversity-conscious way. Learning with and from each other in group work, plenum discussions and individual exercises, your experiences and exemplary critical incidents will be our basis to understand, reflect upon and develop solutions and alternative ways of diversity-conscious communication and cooperation.
